The underground and overgrown of the Karlukovo gorge hides numerous beautiful sites. In the town surroundings there is a very picturesque canyon of the River Zlatna Panega, the marvelous area Kotlen, the unique rock formations Kuklite. The region is rich in caves. About 240 of them have been researched and 6 of them - the phenomenon Prohodna, Bezimenna 22, Zadanenka etc., as well as two rock phenomena Strupanetz and Provartenika - have been announced as natural landmarks.

The caves are object of research for the Bulgarian Federation in Speleology and the World Community in Speleology.

Municipality of Lukovit is located in a transitional region between the Danube Plane and Fore-Balkan. It is situated in the syncline of the Karst region between the rivers Vit and Iskar, on the course of its affluent Zlatna Panega, between two big Karst sub-districts: Karlukovo-Kunski and Zlatna Panega. Both of them are remarkable with their natural beauty.
